The big race of the weekend is the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes at Newbury today and I reckon Addeybb looks great value at around 6-1.

I love an improver and he’s graduated from winning the Silver Cambridgeshire last season to landing the Lincoln before making a successful step up to Group Two company at Sandown last month.

He was very impressive that day and given his lightly-raced profile, there is every chance there’s more improvement in him. William Haggas is in great form and I don’t think I’ve seen James ‘The Doyler’ Doyle ride better.

The favourite, Rhododendron, is coming back in trip, while Limato hasn’t fared better than fourth on his two tries at a mile, so I’d give Addeybb a big tick.

I’ll be at Thirsk this afternoon, where I ride Michael Dods’s first two-year-old runner of the season, Que Amoro, in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

She’s done everything nicely at home and is a filly we like a lot. She is ready for her first run, but will improve a hell of a lot. She looks a very nice prospect for her owners Peter and Linda Appleton and Anne Elliott.

James Given has done well with Tawny Port, who runs in the Watch Racing UK In Stunning HD Handicap. He had a year off with injury and then won under me on his second run back at Pontefract this month.

He won with a bit in hand that day, so I would be pretty hopeful but for the question mark over the fast conditions, as his best form has all come with cut in the ground.

I’m then off to Doncaster, where Wharton is an interesting runner in the Sun Bets Download The App Novice Stakes.

I know Julie Camacho is happy with him and this looks the ideal starting point.

I’m at Ripon tomorrow and Benadalid looks the pick. He ran an encouraging race on his first run back when third at Haydock last month. Natural progression from that should see him run a big race in the VW Van Centre (West Yorkshire) Handicap.

It’s been a terrific Dante meeting and William Derby and his team at York have done a terrific job in getting the course looking so good, particularly the ground, which has been like a carpet. The food in the weighing room has been excellent too with a wide and healthy range on offer.

Roaring Lion impressed me with the way he ran straight to the line once he hit the front in the Dante, although I still think Saxon Warrior is the one to beat in the Investec Derby.

Richard Fahey's Charming Kid looked like a two-year-old to follow when winning impressively under a hands and heels ride from Paul Hanagan on his debut on Wednesday.

Paul is sponsored by Racing UK, the leading horseracing channel, which shows live HD coverage from 37 of the best UK racecourses. For more, visit racinguk.com/join
