Kings Gift is my main horse this weekend. He’s been gelded over the winter, an operation which looks to have done him the world of good. He seems more tuned in and his work has been really good.

We’ve always rated him – he finished ninth in the French 2,000 Guineas last season – and went on to run some decent races in handicap company.

The Bet And Watch At 188bet.co.uk Handicap at Haydock looks a nice starting point for him this season and he’ll run a big race.

Get Knotted is an old favourite of this column and he always gives his followers a run for their money. A strong pace is key to his chances and there looks like there should be just that in the Best Odds Guaranteed At 188Bet Handicap.

What I would say is that he always runs his best at York, as they usually go a good gallop there, and I’m sure that track will be on the agenda this season.

I’m at Wetherby tomorrow, when I will have my first ride for Her Majesty The Queen, which is a great honour.

Sailing Home, who runs in the Bet At racinguk.com Fillies' Novice Stakes, is trained by Michael Bell and has shown promise when fourth on both her starts last season. I’m hopeful she’ll run a big race.

The other one I’ll pick out is Becker, who enters the Jim Yates Memorial Handicap on a hat-trick. He’s clearly on the upgrade and you can’t beat recent winning form.

Looking back at the last week or so, I was disappointed Mabs Cross didn’t win, but delighted she showed us she’d trained on when finishing second at Bath.

I’m 100 per cent sure she would have won, but we broke slowly and were always trying to catch up while negotiating the traffic. Bath is a difficult place to come from behind at and it was a case of the right race, wrong track.

There were some decent fillies in the race and things bode well for her season ahead.

Another horse who could enjoy a successful year is Lord Yeats, who was second to Order Of St George in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan. He gave the winner a little to think about and galloped all the way to the line.

His mother won a Northumberland Plate and I can’t see stamina being an issue for him. He could be a Cup horse.

Finally, I wanted to say how good it was to see Paul Townend bounce back following his day to forget on Tuesday. I do follow my Jumps racing and he is an excellent rider. He thought he had to bypass a fence at Punchestown and, as we know, it all ended badly for him.

But no-one was hurt and it was quite simply a mistake. We are all human and we all make mistakes, so hopefully people can cut him some slack. His treble on Wednesday was the best possible response and evidence of why Willie Mullins puts his faith in him. A class act.
