Pendra’s a big price but he wouldn’t be running if he wasn’t going to have some sort of impact in the Randox Health Grand National Handicap Chase.

My record in the race certainly isn’t anything to write home about, although I have won over the National fences before and Pendra gave me one of my more enjoyable experiences in this amazing spectacle.

We finished 13th two years ago, when he jumped beautifully and showed a real liking for the fences.

He does have some very good form in the book, having finished second in the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival last year. His next start came in the same race last month, when he was running well before getting tired as you’d expect for a horse returning after a year off. He’ll come on for that.

His ability to last the marathon trip has been slightly compromised by the heavy ground as it will be a real war of attrition and very hard work, but it’s only a slight question mark.

If I enjoy the ride as much as I did two years ago then I’ll be happy.

Looking at the opposition, Anibale Fly is a real class horse, who ran a great trial, if you can call it that, to finish third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, while Total Recall was being talked of as a serious National horse when he won the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury back in December.

At a slightly bigger price Ucello Conti would be one I fancy to run a big race. He unseated when going well enough last year and looked to be enjoying the whole experience. He’s got good form in these big races and Gordon Elliott seems to have the Midas touch this season.

L'Ami Serge was an impressive winner of the Aintree Hurdle on Thursday and has been declared to run in the Grade One Ryanair Stayers Hurdle.

It’s great to have my name against him and would be a wonderful opportunity if he does line up. What I would say is that if he does run, the connections, with their knowledge, will be sure he’ll run his race. Given they are not known for running horses in quick succession, they wouldn’t be doing something like this if it wasn’t in the best interests of the horse.

I’ve never ridden Euxton Lane, but Leighton Aspell’s injury has given me the opportunity and it’s a great ride to pick up for Oliver Sherwood and Mr Trevor Hemmings, who has a wonderful connection to Aintree.

I was at Newbury and was very impressed with his win there. I loved watching him in full flow and is a horse with a big future. He lines up in the Betway Mersey Novices' Hurdle.

One other I’ll pick out is Thomas Patrick, who runs in the Betway Handicap Chase. He was very impressive last time at Newbury and the track and ground will suit. He looked very progressive and could well be a Grand National horse next year.

Good luck!
