REDCAR stages its popular Ladies’ And Gents’ Evening Meeting tomorrow (Saturday August 26) and, while the fashion stakes are sure to be hotly contest, the equine competition is also fierce.

The action gets underway with a lady riders’ race at 4.50pm and Time To Blossom catches the eye having been sent on the long trip north from Berkshire by Simon Crisford. With top amateur Serena Brotherton – a York lawyer - in the saddle, the Cape Cross filly will be hard to beat. Richard Fahey has booked Ella McCain, grand-daughter of Red Rum trainer Ginger McCain for Golconda Prince and they look the danger.

Mistress of Venice was thought highly enough of by James Given to run at Royal Ascot and she didn’t let herself down in finishing fourth in the Albany Stakes. With Luke Morris in the saddle for the Bakers Tailoring And Formal Hire Novice Auction Stakes at 5.25, there’s nothing else in the field with those kind of high-class credentials.

The progressive Escape The City is another long-traveller from Berkshire, this time from the Hughie Morrison stable. A strong second of 10 behind odds-on Autumn Leaves at Goodwood last time, she’s a strong fancy to win the Market Cross Jewellers Fillies Novice Auction Stakes at 5.55pm. Three-pound claimer Charlie Bennett takes the ride.

The fourth race of the night is a tricky affair. David O’Meara’s Mon Beau Visage is in great heart, having won at Thirsk last week. Ruth Carr is having a cracking season and her course and distance winner Abushamah looks to be back on a winning mark. However, Denton trainer Michael Dods is flying and a chance is taken with Bamber Bridge, a promising fifth to Theodorico at Thirsk last time.

The stock of Leyburn trainer Jedd O’Keefe is also rising and Danot comes to the fifth race on the back of three seconds. It’s a worry when a horse always seems to find one too good so preference is for Brian Smart’s Outfox, who was a strong-finishing runner-up last time at Wolverhampton.

Newmarket trainer Marco Botti sends a raider in the form of Starlight Circus for the sixth race but the well-bred filly hasn’t exactly set the world alight so far. John Quinn’s Bodacious Name comes from closer to home, at Malton, and is taken to lift the prize. He’s in good form, having finished runner-up to Attention Seeker at Catterick last time, and winning previously at Nottingham.

The last race of a competitive card is at 7.55pm and Jedd O’Keefe’s Regal Decree catches the eye after a solid third of 15 behind Clear As A Bell at Redcar’s July 23 meeting. Tim Easterby’s winner was well fancied that day and Regal Decree shaped well enough to be a leading contender here. John Quinn’s She’s Zoff is less exposed than the others in the field and was a promising fourth of 14 in a Thirsk handicap last time.
