I’m really pleased with my line-up of rides at York today, and it’s very satisfying that the likes of Michael Bell, Hugo Palmer and Richard Hannon, who I have never ridden for, have called on my services.

My stand-out looks to be Get Knotted, who runs in the Constant Security Stakes.

I thought his wide draw in 18 would rule him out of taking a hand at York last week, but he ran a blinder to finish fifth despite not getting a clear run.

The slightly shorter trip of seven furlongs will be spot on for him, as will the likely faster ground and, with only seven runners in the field, I think this looks an excellent opportunity.

Line Of Reason is a horse I know well, and is another who should run a big race in the Unibet Sprint Stakes.

Paul Midgley’s horses have turned the corner and are running well. This horse likes York and the ground will be perfect for him. He likes to have a strong pace to aim at, which will be the case here.

Hugo’s runner, Wall Of Fire, runs in the Listed Weddingmates.Co.UK Grand Cup Stakes. He was only beaten a nose in the Further Flight Stakes at Nottingham and then wasn’t beaten far behind Western Hymn at Chester last time. He’s capable of winning in this class.

I am on Move Over for Richard Hannon in the Yorkshire Regiment British EBF Novice Median Auction Stakes. He hasn’t run before so I can’t tell you anything except that Richard’s horses are flying. At the time of writing, he’s had 17 winners in the last fortnight!

My final ride on the card is the Michael Bell-trained Ice Dancing, who won very nicely at Wolverhampton in March. I’ve had three winners from 11 runners for Michael over the last five years so hopefully we can continue that good record.

The big race of the day is the Group Two Armstrong Aggregates Temple Stakes at Haydock.

Quiet Reflection is the class act in the race and top rated. She will win if she runs up to her best. The caveat is that trainer Karl Burke said he hasn’t been 100 per cent happy with her and that they won't want fast ground. That said, he has sounded more positive this week and she is the obvious choice.

Last week I said in this column that Naggers would take all the beating at Thirsk on Saturday and he didn’t let me down, demolishing his field. We think he could be an Ayr Gold Cup horse. Also, keep an eye on Mabs Cross, who broke her maiden this week for owner David Armstrong. We have quite high hopes for her.

I’ll discuss the Investec Derby in more detail next week, but it looks wide open and, with that in mind, I can’t believe Permian is 14-1.

He’s won the best Derby trial in the Dante, and he wasn’t stopping that day either under Franny Norton, who said it took him ages to pull him up. He has vital experience of Epsom when only just beaten by Cracksman and Mark Johnston’s horses will run all the way to the line. You will get a big run for your money.
