It’s a long old season coming up, but winning the Al Quoz Sprint on Dubai World Cup night would be the perfect start.

Limato has lots of exciting targets coming up in the UK – the obvious one being the Diamond Jubilee; six furlongs at Ascot will suit him well and there is a good but of time between now and then for him to recover.

But it is the major international meetings which always give me a real buzz. You are on the world stage, especially here in Dubai, which always stages the most global racing, and to take on the best of the best is something else.

This is my fifth time riding on Dubai World Cup night and it is brilliant to be going there with such a good ride. He would be the best horse I have ridden at this meeting.

Limato last ran when sixth in the Breeders’ Cup five months ago. We learned a lot about the horse going to America as he had never been away but he took it brilliantly and he was a real pro. He has settled into the routine well here and is a good traveller.

He was given some time off and Mr (Henry) Candy and his staff are very happy with him now.

His owner, Paul Jacobs, and I watched him on the track on Wednesday, and then on Thursday we went five furlongs and quickened for the final two furlongs for a breeze. It wasn’t much but just enough to sharpen him up. He felt really good and is ready for Saturday now – and I can’t wait to ride him.

He looks to have an awful lot in his favour. I think the track at Meydan is going to suit him and the race should suit him with plenty of pace on. The main disadvantage is that we haven’t had a run and many others have.

It looks competitive enough, as you’d expect for a Group One sprint, but we have beaten Jungle Cat in the July Cup and have a few angles covered. Ertijaal looks the one we all have to beat. He’s been in scintillating form this season.

People are questioning his ability to step up from five to six furlongs, but he does hold the track record for six, in addition to the record for five. He is the fastest sprinter we have seen so far on the Meydan turf.

But Limato is one of the best in the world too, having won two Group One races last year and we fancy our chances.

I do have one other ride, Reda in the Dubai Kahayla Classic for Arabians. He could run ok but Af Mathmoon looks the one to beat

As for the season, I have had a good time in Qatar and am leading the jockeys’ championship so I am pleased about that and have had five winners here in Dubai.

I have been going to Qatar the last four years now and have been Champion Jockey every year with last year being my best season with 105 winners. I have had a really good time over there and things are still going well.
