Taquin Du Seuil is a class act on his day and I wouldn't put anyone off backing him each way in the big race of the Open meeting at Cheltenham, the BetVictor Gold Cup Handicap Chase.

He comes here on the back of a very pleasing reappearance over hurdles at Chepstow. He ran on nicely on the end and wasn't beaten far in sixth place behind winner Ballyoptic.

He had almost a year off the track before returning in February this year and showed he was still a force to be reckoned with a sixth and fifth at the Cheltenham and Aintree festivals.

Cheltenham is a place he loves. He won at this meeting and then the JLT at the Festival in the 2013-14 season and clearly has a decent chance on the formbook. Any rain would help, but I don't think he'll mind the ground as it is.

It's a tough race as always, and More Of That was the hot favourite for the RSA and now runs in a handicap. If he's on song he's going to be very tough to beat, but mine won't be far away.

It could be the story of the day as I ride a lot of horses capable of running into places.

Upswing runs in the BetVictor Handicap Chase following a below-par effort at Chepstow last time. I'm not sure what happened last time, but he seems in good form at home. He stays well and was second in this last year, so would have an obvious chance if back to his best.

I'm deputising for the injured Alain Crawley on Allysson Monterg in the Listed Regulatory Finance Solutions Handicap Hurdle.

He ran a cracker to finish sixth in the Albert Bartlett at the Festival in March. This is a very competitive race, but he's a really nice horse and again can hit the frame.

The same applies to Midnight Shot, who lines up in the Martin & Co Jewellers Intermediate Handicap Hurdle.

He won here last month and comes into the race on a hat-trick, but he is going up the handicap as a result. He's got a likeable attitude but will have to improve again to complete the three-timer.

Looking to tomorrow and Fox Norton was mightily impressive when winning here at the Showcase meeting and wasn't out of the first three last season, including when third in the Arkle.

He is a high-profile purchase by Alan and Ann Potts and joins Colin Tizzard. He looks a great addition to the yard and has an obvious chance in the Shloer Chase.

I don't know too much about Mad Jack Mytton as I've never sat on him but, without sounding like a broken record, he also has an each-way shout on the formbook in the stanjames.com Greatwood Hurdle.

What About Carlo brings with him some excellent Flat form on his Jumps debut. He was a consistent performer in some very valuable handicaps and showed his wellbeing with a win over 10 furlongs a Newbury last month.

I schooled him on Friday morning at Eve Johnson Houghton's and he was 100 per cent - you couldn't fault him. He's got a bit of size about him and looks exciting but the Sky Bet Supreme Trial Novices' Hurdle is a Grade Two race so it's a tough starting point.

Mick Thonic runs in the Racing Post Arkle Trophy Trial Novices' Chase on the back of a pleasing second to Shantou Village at Cheltenham last month. He didn't quite get up the hill that day so I suggested we drop him in trip and that hopefully might work.
