Mecca’s Angel is drawn seven for the Qatar Prix de l’Abbaye – the perfect position – which means all boxes are ticked for what can hopefully be a great day at Chantilly tomorrow.

With 17 in the field, the draw means we have options to race on either side, and track the pace. She looks the best horse in the race and she will win if she doesn’t experience any hard luck and runs up to the form of her Nunthorpe victory in August.

I have never ridden at Chantilly before but it’s a straight five furlongs which will be over in seconds. You point them in the right direction and sprint. It’s not rocket science.

As I said, with a big field, things can go wrong so I am by no means counting my chickens. Last year’s winner Goldream is a contender, as is Profitable, who has beaten us twice, including when winning at Royal Ascot.

One who I fancy to run well at a big price is Marsha, who will love this strongly-run five furlongs and has bags of potential. That said, I definitely wouldn’t swap Michael Dods' filly for any other in the race, and I assume most of the jockeys would want to swap their rides with mine. The bookies have her at 6-4 and you can see why.

The Abbaye is later on in the card so my mind might be elsewhere when the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is run, but Postponed looks the one they have to beat. For those looking for a bit of value then surely Harzand should be shorter than 8 or 9-1?

He was an impressive winner of the Derby and Irish equivalent, before being struck into during the Irish Champion Stakes, so you can put a line through that. The Derby winners have a strong record in this race and he is trained by a legend in Dermot Weld.

Hopefully, it could be a good weekend for the Dods team as Bamber Bridge runs in the big sales race at Newmarket on Saturday.

He was an excellent fourth in the £300,000 sales race at Doncaster three weeks ago on what was only his second run. He is clearly improving as he learns more about the game and is a really nice horse. He’s drawn in the middle which is great and he seems very well in himself at home. He’s got to be there or thereabouts in the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes.

I rode a lovely filly a week ago. Talaayeb won her maiden at Newmarket on her debut in the style of a very nice horse. Owen Burrows, who I teamed up with to win two Group races on Markaaz this season, said to me before the race that he really liked her and was pretty bullish.

She has a great attitude, a lovely cruising speed and when I asked her to go and win the race, she showed a good turn of foot. I see she’s being quoted for the 1,000 Guineas and she clearly won’t have a problem with the track if she does make it there. She could be anything.
