I had Sunday and Monday off last week and I felt shattered as a result.

In the peak summer months you get into a zone and simply get into the car and drive. I’ve lost count of the number of double headers I’ve done and only Silvestre De Sousa and Luke Morris have taken more rides in this year's Stobart Jockeys’ Championship.

Being busy means you’re in demand and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The double headers come to an end next month so I need to make hay while I can. It’s when you suddenly stop that the tiredness catches up with you.

I have one ride at Haydock and then five at Ayr today.

At Haydock, Cape Icon, is for Clive Cox, who I have only ridden for four times in recent seasons, winning once.

I know he’s held in high regard and he is taking a big step down in class, having been beaten ten lengths on his most recent start in the Gigaset International Stakes. He should have a decent chance in the Betfred Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry Handicap.

My best ride of the day comes at Ayr on Kings Gift in the QTS Miss Scotland/British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.

The two-year-old made a very encouraging second on debut at Redcar last month.

He’s come on a fair bit for that run and has responded well to everything Michael Dods has asked of him. He’s got a lovely attitude and I will be disappointed if he doesn’t win.

Dark Command, who runs in the QTS Training Handicap, likes the track and has been unlucky not to get his head in front. He is very consistent and will be hard to keep out of the places.

Ayr is the only track Blue Sonic has won on and I was third on her earlier in the year. Linda Perratt’s horses are running a lot better now after a quiet period. She has a sound each way chance in the Gas Sure & James Frew Handicap.

The other one I’ll mention is Economic Crisis, who I have ridden a number of times, and runs in the QTS Ladies' Night Grand Spectacular Handicap. He’s a very fast horse and likes the track, having been placed there a number of times.

I’m heading down to Chelmsford tomorrow for two rides for Conor Dore.

Jaarih runs in the Book Tickets At chelmsfordcityracecourse.com Handicap and Just Be Lucky lines up in the Book Restaurants At chelmsfordcityracecourse.com Handicap.

I rode them both to victory last time and must have live chances in what look winnable races.

It’s good to see Joe Fanning being invited to take part in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup at Ascot.

Amazingly, he’s on course to ride 100 winners for an eighth consecutive year and probably doesn't get the recognition he deserves. He’s the most level-headed and even-tempered guy you could meet. You wouldn’t know whether he was riding in a Group One or seller and he just lets his riding do the talking.

I've read that our colleague Ryan Moore is taking a break after some reported soreness in his hip, which saw him limping at Goodwood last week. He still claimed the Racing UK Top Jockey award for the Festival. It makes you think what he might have achieved if he was fully fit! He's just a phenomenal jockey.
