NEWCASTLE Falcons’ back row Daniel Temm is expecting a party atmosphere at Kingston Park when the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series roadshow hits the city on Saturday.

After Cardiff and Exeter hosted the opening two rounds last weekend, the Singha 7s travels to Northampton on Friday before the final round of group games in the North East.

The competition was held at Darlington Mowden Park last time Temm featured, and the 25-year-old is expecting lots of excitement for the fans on Saturday afternoon.

“I got to play in it a couple of years ago and it was a really great day out, a good chance to see where you are at fitness-wise, and where your skills are at before the season gets going,” he said.

“It’s generally a great day out, loads of action, loads of different games and the crowd get up for it so it’s a good day to play in and a good day to come and watch.

“I remember it as a good occasion playing with my mates, there were quite a few of us in the academy then and we had really good friendships and we got to see that on the field.

“We ended up winning our group stage so we were really happy but I also remember my lungs about to explode out of my chest, it’s a tough day.”

Cardiff Blues and the Ospreys have already qualified for the Series Final at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry after success at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park while Wasps and Exeter Chiefs topped Group B.

And Temm is keen to keep up Newcastle’s strong recent record in the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series by getting one up on their nearest neighbours.

“We hold a good record of topping our group over the last few years and it’s something we looking to do again this year,” he added.

“It will be interesting to see the teams that the other clubs send up, but Worcester, Sale and Leicester are all teams we will come across in Premiership Rugby so we are looking forward to trying to get one up on them before the XVs season starts.

“It’s a good way to start the season, it lets the fans come and see some of the pre-season work we’ve been putting in.

“Obviously on the artificial pitch its quite nice because you’re not getting too muddy and it’s going to make some good-to-watch rugby.”

The Singha Premiership Rugby 7s continues on Friday at Franklin’s Gardens, Northampton and Saturday at Kingston Park, Newcastle with the Series Finals at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry on Sunday 7 August. For tickets and details visit premiershiprugby.com/singha7stickets
