It’s the Go Racing in Yorkshire Festival this week and I always look forward to this every year.

The Yorkshire people love their racing and they really get behind the Festival. You could see on Saturday that Ripon was absolutely jammed, and Redcar was the same on Sunday. With the good weather we’re getting at the moment, the locals are coming out to support their racecourses and they bring a great atmosphere with them – all the jockeys enjoy riding when there is a buzz in the stands.

Looking ahead to my rides later in the week, I’ve got one for the young up-and-coming trainer Rebecca Menzies at Cattrick on Wednesday that I’m looking forward to. It’s aboard a filly called Pulsating in a Novice Stakes (2pm), she’s been placed nearly every time she’s run so I’d hope she’s got a good chance.

More generally my season has gone well so far.

You always want to be doing better, but I think that’s only a good thing. I have had 29 winners so far in the Stobart Flat Jockeys’ Championships and I’m in 19th place at the time of writing. I’m also tied with my friend Paul Mulrennan for leading Yorkshire rider this season. We’ve both had 23 winners at the Yorkshire tracks and hopefully I can beat him come the end of the season.

But overall I can’t complain at the moment, I’m getting plenty of rides and the winners are coming in a nice steady flow – fingers crossed I can keep this form going for the next few months and I should have a good year.

Finally, I hope to see you all out and about over the coming days, Yorkshire racing is great and I’d encourage everyone to get along to their local track if they can over the next week or so and experience what it’s all about. It’s a great day out for all the family, and you can get your kids in for free!
