I have a full book of rides at Newbury today, but have only ridden one of the eight horses previously.

That was Shantou Magic, who runs in the Betfred 'Goals Galore Extra' Handicap Chase.

I won a novice hurdle on him back in 2013 and he then made a promising start to his chase career, winning three times.

However, his pieces of form this season have not been great. Hopefully the better ground might bring out some improvement and Charlie Longsdon’s horses are running well.

My best chance of the day probably lies with Duke Street, who was ninth in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival.

His form has been really solid and he looks to have a very, very good chance in the Doom Bar Juvenile Handicap Hurdle.

The big race on the card is the EBF & TBA Mares' Novices' Hurdle Finale in which I ride Lady Of Lamanver.

She has been a model of consistency without winning, although came mighty close last time at Fontwell.

It’s the most competitive race on the card too, but she has a low weight and Harry Fry’s horses are in good form. She cannot be discounted.

I also ride Instingtive for Harry in the West Berkshire Racing Club Standard Open NH Flat Race. She’s got more experience than most in the field and Harry has got a good record in bumpers.

I schooled Go Conquer at Jonjo O’Neill’s this week and he jumped brilliantly. He is a real forward-going horse and hopefully he can put a couple of below-par efforts behind him. He feels like a horse with ability and runs in the Doom Bar Chelmsford Handicap Chase.

I kick off with Persian Breeze in the John Haine Memorial Novices' Hurdle, which isn’t the most competitive race for a Newbury novice hurdle. She has been very consistent and should run another solid race.

Greenlaw won three times in 2015 and has had a long break since his last run in August. He will appreciate the decent ground and runs in the Betfred 'Follow Us On Twitter' Handicap Chase.

I have two rides at Ascot tomorrow, both of which have good chances.

I am on Berland for John Ferguson in the Coutts Juvenile Handicap Hurdle. He will love the better ground and has a good a chance as any in the field, while Grandads Horse, who runs in the Davidstow Veterans' Handicap Chase would have a great shout, based on his close second to leading Grand National hope Saint Are at Doncaster in February.
