MICHAEL DODS’ star two-year-old, Easton Angel, will run in the colours of Qatar-based Al Shaqab Racing when she travels to Royal Ascot to compete in next week’s Queen Mary Stakes.

Al Shaqab, who are owned by Sheikh Joaan and boast last year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner, Treve, as part of their string, have purchased a 50 per cent stake in Easton Angel, regarded as the most exciting juvenile in Dods’ Denton Hall yard.

Previous owner, Ritchie Fiddes, retains the other half share in the daughter of Dark Angel, who confirmed the promise of her debut win at Musselburgh when she trounced a high-class field to land the Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley last month.

While Frankie Dettori is Al Shaqab’s retained rider, Paul Mulrennan will keep the ride on Easton Angel as part of the deal.

“We were very keen for Paul to retain the ride, and we’re delighted that’s going to happen,” said Dods, who will also run Mecca’s Angel in the King’s Stand Stakes on the opening day of Royal Ascot provided the ground is not too firm.

“Al Shaqab own some of the best horses in the world, so it’s great that they’ve decided to come on board with us in this way.

“She’ll go to the Queen Mary, all being well, and hopefully she’ll run a good race. She’s going well at home, and if anything, we think she’s come on even more since her Beverley win.”

Easton Angel is currently the 5-1 second favourite in the Queen Mary market, with William Haggas’ Besharah topping the market at 7-2.
