LEIGHTON Aspell has stormed to success in the 168th Grand National for a second year in a row on his horse Many Clouds.

The win would have come as a disappointment to the huge numbers who backed champion AP McCoy and Shutthefrontdoor to take the title.

Bookies had predicted £150m would be bet on the race at Liverpool's Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool today, with McCoy the most backed Grand National jockey in recent history.

Many Clouds was described as "wobbly" after the race and taken away to cool down but quickly recovered.

All 39 horses are said to be fine following the tough race despite a number of falls and only 19 horses finishing.

The shocked trainer of Many Clouds, Oliver Sherwood, said after the win: "I can't believe it.

"I thought it was a year too early and that Many Clouds might have gone over the top. What do I know about horses?"

Saint Are finished second after being at the head of the affairs for most of the race, with Monbeg Dude coming home third and Alvarado finishing fourth for the second year in a row.

Shutthefrontdoor finished fifth after coming with every chance at two out, but just failing to sustain his finish beyond the final fence.
