RYDAN made quite an impression last time out and while the Listed Betdaq 50 Per Cent Commission Refund Floodlit Stakes at Kempton represents a huge step up, Robert Mills’ charge looks game for the challenge.

The Intense Focus colt showed some glimpses of ability in his first few starts, including when not beaten far at all by subsequent Royal Ascot winner Cannock Chase and future Lingfield Oaks Trial victory Honor Bound.

However, it took a switch to handicap company for Rydan to finally get his head in front, triumphing over 10 furlongs at Sandown in June before going on to place again at the same track as well as in a fair event at Glorious Goodwood.

He enjoyed no sort of luck at Sandown in August but bounced back in style with a six-length victory over the reopposing Carnevale at Kempton last month.

Godolphin’s Devilment was heavily supported that day but proved no match for Rydan, who showed an electric turn of foot to come from last to first in a matter of strides before going away from the rest.

The merit of the form is perhaps open to question but the handicapper was clearly impressed as he raised Rydan 11lb for the win and while that leaves him with a bit to find on the likes of Fire Fighting and Grendisar, Mills’ runner appears to have any amount of improvement still to come as the allweather season continues to hot up.

Fey boasts an excellent pedigree and is worth a shout in the first division of the Betdaq 30 Free Bet 3 Per Cent Commission Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

Her trainer Charlie Appleby has his string in good heart and top allweather pilot Adam Kirby will do the steering.

Parole is another notable newcomer in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Stakes, in a race that might throw up one of two future winners.

Gm Hopkins is expected to return to winning ways in the Thanks For Everything Pip Kirby Handicap at Nottingham.

The John Gosden-trained Dubawi colt impressed many with his victory in the Silver Cambridgeshire but he could not justify market support when trying to follow up at York.

Gosden’s runner had notched three wins in as many starts this year prior to that eclipse and there were no obvious excuses in the immediate aftermath to explain his defeat.
