Richard Hughes finally passed Ryan Moore in the jockeys’ championship after a successful afternoon at Salisbury.

Defending champion Hughes has been odds-on in the title race for some time and has been far busier in Britain than Moore, who is likely to be abroad from the end of this month.

He reached Moore’s mark of 144 in what was a match-race between the two men in the Bathwick Tyres Conditions Stakes, with Elysian Flyer (13-8) beating 1-2 favourite Astrophysics by three-quarters of a length.

Hughes pushed ahead in the next race, the Vanarama Challenge Handicap, when Musicora (8-1) overcame a late market drift.

F1: The Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday may be affected by Typhoon Phanfone - but there is no suggestion as yet that the weather will see the race postponed.

With Suzuka hosting the 15th round of the 2014 championship and with the title race still very much alive, the passionate Japanese supporters will be keen for the battle between Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg to be played out in front of them.

MeteoGroup forecaster Alexi Venerus believes that, in its current state, Phanfone may not even hit Japanese land and would allow for a clean fight for the race win and title supremacy.
