JOE FANNING lit up Haydock with a sparkling 329-1 treble that included the two feature races on Amralah and Token Of Love.

Fanning has been associated with Mark Johnston’s powerful Middleham yard for a long time now but since joining forces with his new agent, former National Hunt jockey Niall Hannity, the Northern Echo racing writer, he has been picking up far more outside rides.

That was the case on Merseyside with two of his winners coming for Newmarketbased William Haggas while the Betfred Rose of Lancaster Stakes victor Amralah (14-1) is trained by Mick Channon.

Amralah was viewed by many to have ‘stolen’ his last race from the front at Newbury and he was expected to struggle on 3lb worse terms with Vancouverite and Nabucco, but allowed an easy lead once more, Amralah proved that was no fluke.

He held off Sir Michael Stotue’s Hillstar by a length and a quarter.

Channon did not get too see the performance as he was stuck on the M6 due to an accident, but said via telephone: “We have always thought he was a good horse and he’s obviously improving.

“Joe has ridden for me a bit in the past and he’s always been great on front-runners, that’s why we got him.

“I don’t know what we’ll do now but he’s in the Irish Champion Stakes and the sky’s the limit.”

Token Of Love was a wellbacked 9-2 chance in the Betfred TV/EBF Stallions Dick Hern Fillies’ Stakes, but she was still expected to find things tough against English and Irish 1000 Guineas runner- up Lightning Thunder.

However, the latter’s career appears to be going in the wrong direction as after disappointing at Royal Ascot, she could finish only fourth dropped in class.

Fanning never allowed the pace-setters to get too far away and despite Lady Lara making up eyecatching ground from the rear, Token Of Love still had a cosy two and a quarter lengths in hand.

Maureen Haggas, William’s wife, said: “Joe was alive to what was going on and he gave her a very nice ride.

“She really enjoyed that today.

She picked up great and always looked in control. We always thought she wanted it really quick but that was just nice ground today.’’ Haggas and Fanning had earlier won the Betfred “Play Todays £1 1/2 Million Scoop6” Nursery Handicap with Squats.

Albany third Patience Alexander was giving away lumps of weight and taking on the boys following a break since Royal Ascot and she looked badly in need of the run, being one of the first beaten.

Squats (3-1) wore down Profitable, winning by a neck.

Fanning is now in third place in the jockeys’ championship behind only Ryan Moore and Richard Hughes and said: “Things are going well. Mark’s horses are running as well as ever and Niall is getting me on some nice outside rides.”

Ryan Tate was a late replacement for Martin Harley on Energia Davos in the Betfred Goals Galore Handicap and guided the 16-1 shot to a comfortable victory. Harley’s flight from Newmarket was delayed and trainer Marco Botti only informed Tate five minutes before the jockeys were due in the paddock.
