LINDA PERRATT took a chance in running Dark Crystal back quickly at Ayr but it resulted in an 100th winner of the year for in-form jockey Joe Fanning.

Perratt, based just south of Glasgow, saddled the filly to finish fourth at her local track of Hamilton on Saturday evening but she seems to prefer this west coast course, as she had also been successful at last week’s meeting.

Stepped back up in trip on a miserable afternoon, the 11-4 chance just thwarted Dhaular Dar in the Download The BetVictor App Now Handicap.

“We ran on Saturday, which was probably a mistake because the ground was fast, and over six furlongs with those sprinters she didn’t see which way they were going!” said Perratt.

“She had won an apprentice race last week, so we thought we’d better cash in ahead of the handicap.

A mile on softer ground is fine for her and she likes the track.”

Perratt went on to saddle a one-three-four in the Spincast At BetVictor Download The New App Handicap as Tadalavil (16-1) shaded a very tight finish and stablemates Saxonette and Findog followed in close behind.

Fanning had reached 99 through his most regular supplier of winners, Mark Johnston, when Chadic (7- 2) made every yard of the running in the EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes.

“He has come on for each run, the last time we were taking a big chance with such a rangy horse at Epsom,” Johnston said.

“This track suited him better. The staff loved him from day one but, frankly, he was slow coming to hand. He has good breeding and it’s nice to get one on the board.”

Fanning made it threeout- of-three in the colours of the Duke of Roxburghe, who owns and bred Maracuja in partnership with the Duke of Devonshire.

The consistent 11-10 favourite, whose name is the Portuguese for passion fruit and was inspired by a holiday in Brazil, comfortably took the Follow Bet- VictorRacing On Twitter Handicap.

That was really nice, she deserved it,” said the Duke.

“She has been placed five times this year and second three.

“Joe said she did it really nicely and quickened away without any trouble. She seems to be able to handle any ground and hopefully she might be progressive and maybe win another.

“It’s really nice to get her to win, she’s the second foal out of the mare, who is a full-sister to Viva Pataca.

Apart from Attraction, Viva Pataca would be one of the best I’ve ever bred.”
