WARREN PLACE in Newmarket is a far different place without the late Sir Henry Cecil around but the historic stable produced three winners for two different trainers on a fine spring afternoon at Lingfield.

Glorious Empire (5-4 favourite) looks to be following the same upward trajectory as Ed Walker, who is now a Warren Place tenant, as he extended his unbeaten record to two.

Then Lady Cecil herself sent out a double, with Morning Watch (6-1) staying past 6- 4 favourite Belrog in the 32Red On The App Store Maiden Stakes and Grasped eventually justifying her position as 1-3 favourite for the 32Red Immortal Romance Slot Fillies’ Handicap.

The 32Red Tomb Raider Slot Handicap was as low-key as Glorious Empire’s opening assignment at Kempton last November, but the alreadygelded son of Holy Roman Emperor seems to have Walker quietly excited.

Glorious Empire was always to the head of affairs but what was most impressive was the way he found extra in the home straight and drew a length and threequarters away from Outback Traveller.

‘‘I was a bit disappointed he played up in the stalls and was a bit keen in the first couple of furlongs but he’s a very scopey horse with lots of speed,’’ said Walker.

‘‘We’ll just see what the handicapper does but this was a nice start. I’d like to try him on a galloping track. He’s Hong Kong-owned and the stallion is very popular out there so we’ll see what happens, but the owners are also happy to keep them here.’’ James Doyle was in the hotseat for both Lady Cecil’s runners and he had to work pretty hard on the unbeaten Grasped in the Khalid Abdullah silks.

Assistant trainer George Scott said: ‘‘She’s still got a lot to learn and I’d say that’s the last time you’ll see her over a mile.”
