Tiger slips as US in taken by Storm

HARTLEPOOL'S Graeme Storm was forced to wait until today to resume his final round after surguing into contention in the CA Championship.

Threatening weather caused play to be halted early in the final round with the leaders through just three holes at Doral Resort's Blue Monster.

Storm carded a nine-under par 63 when the weather delayed third round was completed, coming home in 29 strokes courtesy of five birdies and an eagle.

Australian Geoff Ogilvy continued to hold a four-shot lead after three holes. He was 17- under, while Storm and Australian Adam Scott were equal second at 13-under - also after three holes.

But Tiger Woods' sevenevent winning streak was in grave jeopardy. He birdied the first two holes, but promptly bogeyed the next two to fall six strokes off the pace as his putting problems continued.

Storm, however, had no such concerns.

I made the cardinal sin on the eighth hole of saying I'm putting great and the next thing I three-putt but I made everything coming in," said Storm.

To come back in 29 on a golf course like this is a massive confidence boost.'' Storm's ball was in a fairway bunker at the par-four 16th when play was halted due to bad weather, so he was able to place the ball for the resumption, nipping a nice bunker shot to seven feet for birdie.

And he closed in style with another birdie at the last, a nice drive avoiding the water, before hitting a raking four-iron which covered the pin, settling ten feet away.

Storm's lofty position was a far cry from Thursday, when he slumped to three over after just nine holes, before picking up four shots coming home.

I made so many mistakes the first two days,'' he said. That was the reason I was only three under. I cut out all the mistakes (in the third round).'' Storm, who posted his first and so far only European Tour victory at last year's French Open, first hit the headlines when he became the first round leader at last year's US PGA Championship.

He eventually faded to finish 62nd, but it proved a valuable learning experience, or so he says.

O g i l v y , meanwhile, r e s u m e d yesterday with seven holes left, and the 2006 US Open champion made the most of his morning, picking up two birdies with long putts to shoot 68 and jump clear of the field in soggy conditions.

Ogilvy has not won since the US Open nearly two years ago. If he's going to win here, it will not be until this afternoon.
