JOLEON LESCOTT has signed for Sunderland until the end of the season.
The 34-year-old free agent, who has been without a club since leaving AEK Athens in November, has been handed the deal by his former Everton manager David Moyes until the end of the season.
Lescott, a centre-back, will provide an option at the heart of the defence at a time when Papy Djilobodji could be hit with a four-match ban after being charged with violent conduct by the Football Association.
The former Manchester City defender told the club's website: “We spoke last Thursday, he (David Moyes) asked me how I was. I was asked to come up, so I came up on Friday, did some work with the fitness coach and that was it. I am delighted to get it done.
“He is a well experienced manager, the situation is not great but if anyone can get us out of there he can. I have played with a few, there are a few familiar faces here so that helps.
“I am excited to play at the Stadium of Light, there’s always an intense atmosphere. I have not had too many great results here so hopefully that will continue for the away team while I am here.”
