Reading 2 Sunderland 1

CONTROVERSY seems to be following Sunderland around at the moment and, for the second weekend running, a debatable refeereing decision went against the Black Cats in the final minute of a game.

Seven days after Danny Collins had a legitimate winner chalked off against Aston Villa, referee Steve Tanner awarded a Stephen Hunt a stoppage-time strike that did not appear to have crossed the line at the Madejski Stadium.

Craig Gordon's desperate attempts to stop the ball entering the goal appeared to have worked, but the goal was awarded on the advice of the assistant referee.

Two games, two controversial incidents, three points lost. Goodness knows how important those three points could be come the end of the season.

Sunderland will have felt particularly hard done by on this occasion as they had battled gamely to get themselves back into the game.

Michael Chopra's penalty had looked like earning them a deserved point, but Hunt was to have the last laugh. Needless to say nobody was laughing on Wearside.
