TRANSFER TALK: Who do you think should be Sunderland's first choice targets in the
summer? Which positions do you feel the club need to strengthen? • Share

Sunderland 1 Newcastle Utd1
THIS may not have ended quite the way so many of Sunderland's Premier
League fixtures have ended this season, but must almost feel as bad.
Seven minutes after half-time the Black Cats had their first win on
home soil in 27 years over their North-East neighbours in their
sights.
Danny Higginbotham made the most of some slack marking and the three
points - for only the third time this season - would have been
justification for the way they had started the encounter.
In the end, though, this may not have been another reversal but the
way in which Newcastle claimed a point will infuriate.
The defence could not be blamed for the way James Milner's ball to the
back post curled inside Craig Gordon's net. There was certainly more
than an element of luck about it but the black and white contingent
were in no mood to complain.
The Newcastle supporters can quite rightly boast there is more quality
within their squad, but Sunderland's energy and passion made up for
that.
Sunderland enjoyed large spells of possession - with Kenwyne Jones
once again outstanding along with the local pride pouring out of Grant
Leadbitter - but the way Newcastle battled back was quite rightly
rewarded with a point. Even if the goal itself was fortuitous.
