NORTH-EAST rivals Sunderland and Middlesbrough will meet at the Stadium of Light in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.

Tonight's draw set up a Wear-Tees derby in the week beginning Monday, October 29 for a place in the last eight of the competition.

The tie is a repeat of last season's meeting between the two sides in the FA Cup, which Sunderland won at the second time of asking.

Having drawn 1-1 on Wearside , Stephane Sessegnon scored an extra-time winner at the Riverside after the replay had also finished in a 1-1 draw.

Middlesbrough look better equipped this time around, and have already seen off Bury, Gillingham and Preston in this season's League Cup.

However, Sunderland will start as favourites for next month's encounter, having secured their fourth-round place on Tuesday with a 2-0 win at MK Dons.

That win came despite the dismissal of Lee Cattermole , and the former Middlesbrough midfielder will have served his anticipated three-match suspension by the time his current employers lock horns with his former club.

Cattermole missed both matches against Boro last season through injury and will be desperate to be involved next month.

The Teessiders, who have now been drawn away from home in the League Cup on a remarkable 11 successive occasions, boast former Sunderland midfielder Julio Arca in their ranks, and goalkeeper Jason Steele was clearly happy with the short trip north as he tweeted: “Knew that was gunna (sic) happen. Love it!”
