Black Cats open to Healy offers

SUNDERLAND boss Steve Bruce will listen to offers for David Healy when the window for Football League loans opens later this month.

Healy was one of four senior strikers named in the official 24-man squad that Sunderland officials submitted to the Premier League earlier this week.

One of those strikers, Fraizer Campbell, will miss the majority of the campaign after damaging his cruciate ligaments against Manchester City, but Bruce can also call upon Danny Welbeck and Ryan Noble, whose age meant they did not have to be included in the formal squad.

As a result, Bruce is willing to listen to loan offers for Healy, whose last senior appearance for Sunderland came in January’s FA Cup defeat at Portsmouth.

The Northern Ireland international was told earlier this summer he would not be featuring prominently in Bruce’s plans, but was unable to secure a permanent move away from the Stadium of Light.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town, and a number of Championship clubs are expected to be interested in securing his services once the Football League loan window opens later this month.

Ipswich boss Roy Keane is willing to offer Healy a second spell at Portman Road, while the 31-year-old is also interesting Coventry City, who signed another former Sunderland striker, Roy O’Donovan, earlier this summer
