SUNDERLAND (4-4-2):

6 Steele: Didn’t have a chance with either of the goals and made a smart second-half save to keep out Alioski’s free-kick

5 Jones: Gave his all on the right of Sunderland’s back four, but struggled to keep tabs on Leeds’ attackers

6 Browning: Was the pick of Sunderland’s defenders and didn’t shy away from the physical battle with Leeds’ forwards

5 Kone: Failed to deal with the first-half through ball that led to Saiz’s opener and made a number of errors

3 Galloway: Can’t have had many worse afternoons – was completely overrun before he was hauled off at the start of the second half

5 Honeyman: His effort couldn’t be faulted, but he lacked the touch of composure that was required to break down the Leeds defence

5 Cattermole: Provided his usual energy and effort, but couldn’t prevent Leeds launching a series of dangerous counter-attacks

7 NDONG: Sunderland’s best player by a distance as he looked to pull the strings at the heart of central midfield

4 McGeady: Couldn’t match the standards he has been setting this season as far too many of his crosses failed to reach a team-mate

5 Vaughan: Showed plenty of endeavour once again, but didn’t look like scoring and was taken off at the start of the second half

6 Grabban: Came within inches of breaking the deadlock as his shot was deflected onto the crossbar and ran the channels effectively

Subs:

Matthews (for Galloway, 55): The left-hand side of Sunderland’s defence looked much more solid after his second-half introduction 6

Khazri (for Vaughan, 55): Couldn’t spark Sunderland into life as he struggled to get any time or space on the ball 5

Asoro (for Cattermole, 74)

(not used): Ruiter (gk), O’Shea, Gibson, Gooch, Asoro.

LEEDS (4-2-3-1):

Wiedwald 6; Ayling 7, Cooper 8, Jansson 8, Anita 6; O’Kane 7, Phillips 7; ALIOSKI 8, Saiz 8 (Klich 80), Hernandez 5 (Roofe 24, 6); Ekuban 6 (Dallas 62, 7).

Subs (not used): Green (gk), Borthwick-Jackson, Vieira, Shaughnessy.

Man Of The Match: EZGJAN ALIOSKI – The Leeds midfielder tortured Brendan Galloway down Sunderland’s left-hand side and caused a host of problems whenever he ghosted behind the Black Cats’ defence.
