SUNDERLAND boss Simon Grayson is set to land his second goalkeeper of the summer, with Robbin Ruiter due to sign a two-year deal.

The Dutchman, who has been on trial in pre-season, has agreed terms on a deal and he will be back on Wearside for the transfer formalities today.

Ruiter left FC Utrecht at the end of last season and appeared twice for the Black Cats in pre-season, impressing against both Bradford City and Scunthorpe United.

Following the departure of Vito Mannone to Reading, Grayson has signed Jason Steele from Blackburn for £500,000.

And the Black Cats appear to have beaten Burnley to landing Ruiter, who should be available for Friday’s Championship opener at the Stadium of Light against Derby on Friday evening.

It remains to be seen if midfielder Darron Gibson is available on Friday, with the club launching an investigation after the midfielder was captured on video on Saturday evening criticising his teammates.

The midfielder was drunk as he openly called some of the squad following Saturday’s 5-0 humbling to Celtic.

And Gibson has been called a “renegade” by Chris Sutton. The BBC 5 Live pundit also described Sunderland as a "cesspit" with a dressing room "full of pirates".

Former Blackburn and Celtic striker Sutton said: "I mean for him to say those things he's a renegade, isn't he? In a dressing room full of pirates.

"And Sunderland is a cesspit at the moment and they just don't need it.

“Poor Simon Grayson, he's got a hard enough job on. This is a club that for years, well it's been coming hasn't it?

"He's got a job to get this Sunderland team anywhere near the play-offs, and things like this don't help.

"In this day and age everybody knows everybody has got a camera phone. Years ago players might have got away with it - going for a drink after you've got thrashed. But you just cannot do it. Absolutely brainless behaviour.

"Privately they'll probably want to sell him and be touting him around but it's not that easy. I don't think that is a sackable offence."
