JERMAIN DEFOE has confirmed he is leaving Sunderland when the transfer window opens in July.

The Black Cats striker, currently on England duty ahead of this Saturday’s World Cup qualifier with Scotland, has already agreed the terms of his move to Bournemouth.

The 34-year-old is free to leave Sunderland because of a clause in his contract which allows him to go for nothing following relegation. It is reported he will earn £130,000-a-week at Bournemouth when it goes through.

He was soon down to the south coast after Sunderland’s final Premier League defeat at Chelsea on May 21 to discuss the switch.

And now Defoe has told Five Live: "It's out there, a lot of people obviously knew, I did a medical and said when this is finished and I've had a break, come July everyone will know anyway.”

The former Tottenham man scored 15 goals last season but those weren’t enough to help keep Sunderland in the top-flight. He joined in January 2015 when Gus Poyet was in charge.

Defoe added: "Two and a bit years at Sunderland, I enjoyed my time there, it's not nice when you get relegated, I don't think it’s fair on the Sunderland fans to come out so soon after they've been relegated and say 'yeah, I'm signing for someone else'.

"It's too soon to put it out there. At the right time, I would like to say 'this is the club I'll be playing for'."
