SUNDERLAND goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is heading for the European Championships with the England Under-21s.

The 22-year-old will be heading away with his country to Poland when Aidy Boothroyd hopes to lead his team to glory.

Pickford was overlooked by Gareth Southgate for the senior team ahead of this week's round of fixtures, but there was always one eye on the Euros.

He enjoyed a brilliant first full season in the Premier League and that earned him two senior call-ups from Southgate.

Last summer Pickford helped the under-21s to Toulon Tournament success and will be dreaming of a repeat this time around when the tournament starts on June 16.

Pickford is the subject of big interest this summer following Sunderland's relegation to the Championship.

He is joined in the Under-21s squad by Derby's Hartlepool-born goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell. Arsenal's Calum Chambers, who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, has also had the call.
