The managerial merry-go-round continues for the four vacant jobs in England’s top two divisions however, the picture is set to become a little clearer with Marco Silva taking over from Walter Mazzarri at Watford.

Silva was one of the market leaders for jobs elsewhere at Leeds, Crystal Palace and Sunderland despite being relegated with Hull last season.

Next permanent Sunderland manager prices from BetVictor: Derek McInnes 1/2 (from 4/1); Nigel Clough 4/1 (from 25s); Kevin Phillips 14/1; Garry Monk 14/1; Nigel Pearson 16/1; 20/1 Bar

The markets are, as ever, highly volatile, with Chinese whispers having a domino effect and gambles a common occurrence. One such punt was Clough supposedly heading to his old man’s former stomping ground, and backed into 2/1 from 25s with BetVictor to swap the Pirelli Stadium for the Stadium of Light on Friday afternoon.

Clough has eased back out to 4/1 but it would be of no surprise to see clubs after his services after keeping Burton in the Championship last season and he is likewise a 12/1 chance to replace Garry Monk at Elland Road. Monk is 6/4 with BetVictor to replace Big Sam at Crystal Palace; however, a manager even shorter for a big job is Derek McInnes with the Aberdeen gaffer backed into 1/2 from 4/1 for Sunderland.

McInnes was previously linked to a switch to Rangers but remained at Pittodrie, leading Aberdeen to Saturday’s Scottish Cup final at Hampden. An injury-time winner from Hoops’ defender Tom Rogic saw them beat the Dons 2-1 at the weekend but Aberdeen lost little in defeat, with McInnes odds-on to become David Moyes’ successor in the Sunderland hot-seat.

Elsewhere, England produced a stunning performance to beat South Africa down on the south coast and looks a decent bet to win the Champions Trophy on home soil.

Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes was once again England’s difference maker, making a magnificent century at Southampton, but awaits a scan to clear him for the 50-over competition later this summer.

BetVictor make England the 5/2 favourites to succeed on home soil, and odds-on to beat the Proteas this afternoon at the home of cricket; England 4/5 and the visitors even money to win at Lords.
