DAVID MOYES is pondering changes for Sunday’s trip to Tottenham in a bid to get Sunderland ticking in the Premier League.

The Black Cats boss has been encouraged by aspects of his team so far this season, but is weighing up his options to freshen his team up at White Hart Lane after Monday’s alarming collapse against Everton.

Sunderland are winless in four Premier League fixtures and have conceded eight during that run, a statistic that will be difficult to improve against Spurs.

Moyes – tipped to make a fresh move for Norwich’s Steven Naismith in January - is keeping a close eye on record signing Didier Ndong in training in the hope he proves his fitness and forces his way into his plans.

Ndong, a £13.6m arrival from Lorient, started on the bench and was only introduced against Everton after Romelu Lukaku had struck an 11-minute hat-trick, although he also has competition from Jason Denayer to play in the defensive midfield role.

Both are under consideration to play holding midfield in the hope it brings extra protection to the back four, which was exposed time and again against the Toffees particularly when £8m defender Papy Djilobodji lost his concentration.

Moyes is also giving fresh consideration to recalling Wahbi Khazri, who has found himself on the periphery of things since Sam Allardyce’s departure.

The Sunderland manager is looking for greater energy on the flanks which is why the more youthful Lynden Gooch, Duncan Watmore and Adnan Januzaj were preferred to play behind Jermain Defoe on Monday.

But with Fabio Borini facing a couple of months on the sidelines through injury, and the departure of Jeremain Lens before the transfer window closed, there is a real shortage of wide options.

Khazri was integral to Sunderland’s successful fight to beat the drop following his arrival in January but has not started any of the Premier League matches so far under Moyes. He has twice been used as a substitute around the hour mark, while he played in the victory over Shrewsbury in the EFL Cup.

But Moyes, who insists the Tunisian has a future at the Stadium of Light, is seeking greater creativity in the final third for lone striker Jermain Defoe and Khazri’s deliveries – if he can recapture last season’s form – should provide that.

Watmore was a starter against Everton and it has emerged his tenth appearance from the first whistle in the league has triggered a clause in the deal which took him from Altrinchman three years ago.

The National League North club is due to receive a five-figure payment as an add-on to the deal which was agreed in 2013. Watmore also been a regular for England Under-21s.

Former Sunderland winger Charis Mavrias has joined German club Karlsruher on a two-year deal, while Charles N’Zogbia – who was on Wearside for a trial in the summer – is set for a move to Nantes.
