TOTTENHAM will look to sell DeAndre Yedlin this summer, with Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce ready to lodge a formal offer for the full-back.

Having joined the Black Cats on a season-long loan in August, Yedlin found himself behind Billy Jones in the pecking order for the first half of the campaign.

However, having been recalled for February’s 2-1 win over Manchester United, he started Sunderland’s final 13 matches and became an integral part of the club’s successful survival push.

He is due to link up with Tottenham’s first-team squad at the start of pre-season training, but Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino does not envisage him being part of the London club’s plans next term and is ready to move him on permanently this summer.

Kyle Walker is firmly established as Spurs’ first-choice right-back, with Kieran Trippier next in line, and while Yedlin still has plenty of potential for improvement given that he does not turn 23 until July, Pochettino will look to sell him while his stock is reasonably high.

Sunderland will face competition for his signature, but Allardyce will hope the experiences of the last nine months will help persuade Yedlin to sign a permanent deal on Wearside.

The Black Cats boss is ready to bid around £2m for the defender, and Yedlin is open to the possibility of returning to the North-East.

“It’s definitely a door I would not close,” he said. “I would not mind going back, I had a great time there.

“I’m keeping all doors open, I don’t want to shut any right now. Any opportunity that is offered to me is a big opportunity.

“When you’re dealing with the Premier League, it’s still unbelievable to think that I’m playing in the Premier League. I don’t want to close any doors right now.”

Yedlin is currently in the United States preparing to represent his nation in the Copa America. The US are hosting the tournament, and have been drawn in a group with Colombia, Costa Rica and Paraguay.

Yedlin was one the United States’ star performers in the last World Cup in Brazil, and is likely to be Jurgen Klinsmann’s first-choice full-back next month.

He has benefited from playing regularly in the last two months, and is delighted with the way his loan spell at Sunderland unfolded.

“My time at Sunderland has been unbelievable,” said Yedlin. “It’s my first run at Premier League soccer so I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

“Everybody at the club welcomed me in with open arms and the fans were amazing throughout the season, so I couldn’t have asked for a better club to start my time in England. I feel blessed to have had the chance to play for Sunderland.

“I didn’t know what to expect when I first came up here. People had spoken about the club and the fans, but it’s been better than I could ever have wished for.

“Even on the last day, when we were playing for nothing, the fans created an unbelievable atmosphere. The staff have treated me brilliantly and the players have a very tight-knit locker room, so it’s been an amazing experience from start to finish.”
