SAM ALLARDYCE has revealed defender Lamine Kone is fit for a match with Everton on Wednesday which could keep Sunderland in the Premier League.

The £5m signing from Lorient suffered a slight thigh problem in Saturday’s memorable 3-2 win over Chelsea at the Stadium of Light.

But Allardyce has confirmed that Kone is “OK for Wednesday” as the Black Cats looks for the victory over the Toffees that will secure Premier League status for a further year – at Newcastle’s expense.

But the Sunderland manager is not expecting Everton, whose manager Roberto Martinez is under pressure after a frustrating end to the campaign, to roll over and let them get the result they crave before Sunday’s final day trip to Watford.

"I hope there is not a feeling out there that this game is a foregone conclusion," said Allardyce at his pre-match press conference this afternoon.

"It will be anything but. Everton have been criticised for their performance against Leicester and I think that will get a reaction from their players and Roberto here on Wednesday.

"I think we will see Everton trying their best to spoil our evening. We must be in top form and be as committed as we were on Saturday, if we are to get the result we are looking for.”

Sunderland’s players were given Sunday off and were back on the training ground today in preparation for the penultimate game of the campaign.

Newcastle’s goalless draw at Aston Villa means they will drop into the Championship - even if they beat Tottenham on the final day – if Sunderland can collect two points from their last two matches.

Allardyce, who reported Billy Jones is the only absentee, said: "Now we have to focus for Wednesday's big game against Everton. The outcome of Saturday's result means, if we can secure another victory, we are safe with one game to go.

"It is obviously going to be crucial to us that we give as good a performance as we gave on Saturday against Chelsea.”
