SUNDERLAND Under-21s had no answer to Tottenham’s attacking quality as the young men from Wearside lost their penultimate game of the season 3-1.
Highly-rated Shayon Harrison scored a hat-trick for Spurs at White Hart Lane and had a double inside the first 22 minutes to pave the way for the victory.
George Honeyman pulled one back for Sunderland just before the half hour but they could not find a leveller and Harrison completed his treble in stoppage-time to seal the points.
Sunderland: Stryjek; J Robson, T Robson, Agnew, Brady, Beadling, Lawson, Smith, Mandron, Honeyman, Greenwood. Subs: Nelson, Talbot, Molyneux, Ledger, Wright.
NEWCASTLE Under-21s suffered further dejection just like the senior team by crashing to a 4-1 home defeat to Brighton.
The Seagulls were in control from the 11th minute when former Real Madrid youngster Jack Harper’s longer range effort took a deflection in and it was two a couple of minutes later when Joe Ward finished well.
Luke Charman did pull one back almost immediately from kick-off for the Magpies when he raced through but Brighton never really looked like losing it.
And after the half-time they added two more. James Tiley grabbed the third with 17 minutes remaining before Jonah Ayunga completed the win three minutes later.
Newcastle: Harker, Cobain, Gibson, Hunter, Williams, Bailey, Roberts, Ward, Charman, Barlaser, Longstaff. Subs: Kitchen, C Smith, Adu-Peprah, Laidler, Heaney.
