STEVEN FLETCHER'S Sunderland career is over after he completed a deadline-day move to French side Marseille.
Fletcher has joined Marseille on a season-long loan, but given that his Black Cats contract is due to expire in the summer, he has already played his final game for the Wearsiders.
The 28-year-old joined Sunderland in a £12m move from Wolves in August 2012, but failed to live up to the promise that persuaded Martin O'Neill to shell out an eight-figure fee.
He leaves having scored 23 goals in 108 appearances, and while he will be remembered fondly for his derby goals against Newcastle and his fine goalscoring run right at the start of his Sunderland career, his time at the Stadium of Light was blighted by a succession of injuries.
He will team up with two midfielders with Newcastle United connections at the Stade Velodrome - Florian Thauvin and Remy Cabella - and could make his Marseille debut in tomorrow's Ligue 1 game with Montpellier.
