EVERTON (4-2-3-1): Howard 5; Coleman 6, Oviedo 5 (Galloway 24, 7), Stones 5, Funes Mori 5; McCarthy 7, Barry 7; KONE 9, Barkley 7, Deulofeu 8 (Mirallas 65, 5); Lukaku 8 (Osman 78). Subs (not used): Robles (gk), Gibson, Lennon, Naismith.
SUNDERLAND (5-2-1-2):
4 Pantilimon: Never looked like stopping any of the goals even if he did make a couple of saves;
4 Yedlin: One early run deep in to the Everton half was about as good as it got for the American
3 Coates: Scored an own goal on an afternoon to forget for the former Liverpool man back on Merseyside
3 Brown: Started reasonably well but a lack of match fitness and football took its toll
4 Jones: Worked as hard as he could in a new position but was exposed a few times for not making the right decision
4 van Aanholt: Continues to impress in an attacking sense but makes the wrong decisions defensively;
6 Cattermole: Had looked full of purpose in the opening moments but then lost his way a bit before his injury
4 M’Vila: Didn’t get hold of the ball like he can and brushed aside a couple of times too cheaply;
6 Johnson: Unfortunate not to score in the first half and looked full of ideas early on in a central role;
6 DEFOE: Scored a brilliant goal to put Sunderland back in it before half-time and caused problems
6 Fletcher: Took his goal well again and looks like a man refreshed and hungry to impress again
Subs:
Rodwell (for Cattermole 38): Will be disappointed at the amount of goals they conceded while he was on the pitch. 5
Larsson (for Yedlin 63): Too late for him to do anything really. 5
Watmore (for Fletcher 75)
(not used): Mannone (gk), Gomez, Lens, Graham.
MAN OF THE MATCH: AROUNA Kone – teed up the first for Everton and then grabbed a perfect hat-trick with his right foot, left foot and headed finishes.
