SUNDERLAND (4-2-3-1):

3 Mannone: Will not be banging on the head coach’s door tomorrow asking to face Manchester United;

6 Yedlin: Created a couple of decent chances with his strong running and sent a lovely cross in for Toivonen’s consolation header

4 Coates: Guilty of teeing up Aguero for a chance early on and never really recovered

5 O’Shea: The Irishman was the better of the two centre-backs but he was hardly at his best

3 Van Aanholt: Gave a penalty away, played Sterling onside and needs to improve;

4 Rodwell: Will be lucky to stay in the side at Old Trafford with Cattermole pressing again

5 M’Vila: One searching pass should have ended with a Borini goal counting;

4 Lens: A few nice early touches but failed to cause the City defence problems and didn’t do enough defensively

5 Toivonen: Could have scored from Yedlin’s cross first half but did just that in the closing stages

5 Johnson: Didn’t look in full flow but he is likely to be short of match fitness, like so many others;

6 Borini: Created a couple of chances with his movement and unlucky to see his goal ruled out for a shove on Otamendi

Subs:

CATTERMOLE (for Rodwell 46): Not to blame for any of the goals and will hope to return at Manchester United. 6

(not used): Pantilimon (gk), Larsson, Brown, Gomez, Fletcher, Defoe.

MANCHESTER CITY (4-4-2): Caballero 7; Sagna 6, Demichelis 6, Otamendi 5, Kolarov 5; Fernando 6, Toure 7 (Evans 87); Navas 6 (Roberts 55, 5), DE BRUYNE 8, Sterling 8; Aguero 7 (Garcia 74). Subs (not used): Wright (gk), Fernandinho, Maffeo, Barker.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Kevin de Bruyne – made life difficult for Sunderland, but so he should for a £50m plus transfer fee.
