BOURNEMOUTH (4-4-2): Boruc 6; Francis 7, Cook 6, Distin 7, Daniels 6; Ritchie 7 (Smith 89), Surman 6, Gosling 7, Pugh 7; Tomlin 6 (O'Kane 65, 6), WILSON 8 (Murray 76). Subs: Federici, Bennett, Stanislas, Kermorgant.

SUNDERLAND (4-3-3):

4 Pantilimon: Could have done better for the first goal and although not at blame for the second, his poor distribution got Sunderland into trouble time and time again;

4 Jones: Looked uncomfortable in possession and was positionally suspect at key times in the game

3 Kaboul: Showed naïveté to be turned so easily by Wilson for the goal, and extreme stupidity to chop him down for the sending-off

4 Coates: Was pulled out of the backline to track the deeper Tomlin and left huge gaps in behind as Bournemouth pressed

4 van Aanholt: A rare occasion where he was Sunderland’s least worst defender, but went missing at times;

5 M'Vila: Sunderland’s best player on the ball, but tried too hard to make long passes from deep positions stick and failed repeatedly

4 Gomez: Did not show enough in the first half and still looks way off the pace of the game

5 Toivonen: Started well but lost discipline and threw his weight around in the second half, earning a yellow card;

6 Lens: Full of running and although he dipped in and out of the game, should have been credited with a second-half goal

5 Defoe: Needs to be more clinical, spurned two clear-cut chances where the outcome may have been a different story

6 BORINI: Not yet match fit, but looks hungrier than the rest of the team and will come good once he has a couple more games under his belt

Subs: Rodwell (Gomez, 46) – Gave the midfield a bit of bite in the second half as Sunderland steadied the ship 6

Fletcher (Defoe 69) – Too many smart touches and not enough hard work and guile.

4 Johnson (Borini 72) – Did not have sufficient time to effect a change and saw Sunderland go down to ten men moments after his introduction

(not used): Cattermole, Larsson, Yedlin, Mannone.

MAN OF THE MATCH

CALLUM Wilson – Set Bournemouth on their way to victory and gave Sunderland the runaround all afternoon. When will Sunderland learn to deal with pacy players?
