SUNDERLAND have set up an FA Youth Cup derby with North-East rivals Newcastle United following an extra-time victory over Ipswich Town in tonight’s fourth-round tie.

The Black Cats’ under-18s needed extra-time to claim a 3-1 win at the Stadium of Light, and set up an intriguing fifth-round derby on Wearside which will be played before the end of the month.

Elliott Dickman’s juniors fell behind in the 24th minute when Victor Gulbrandsen headed past James Talbot in the Sunderland goal.

The hosts levelled six minutes later though as Ethan Robson crossed for ex-Darlington youngster Jordan Blinco to fire home.

With heavy snow falling, neither side could fashion a breakthrough in the second half of normal time, although Josh Robson came close with an effort that was deflected over and Dan Casey headed narrowly wide in stoppage time.

Sunderland claimed the lead shortly before half-time in extra time as a swift counter-attack ended with substitute Luke Molyneux finding the net.

The Black Cats added a third goal with 13 minutes left as Dan Pybus drilled home a low strike, and while Ethan Robson saw a late penalty saved, Sunderland triumphed to set up a date with the Magpies.

Sunderland: Talbot, Casey, J Robson, McEvoy, Colquhoun, Ledger, Blinco (Pybus 97), E Robson, Nelson (Molyneux 51), Wright, Greenwood.
