Spennymoor Town 1 Kidderminster Harriers 1.

Spennymoor collected a deserved point from their third home game at Harrogate in a 1-1 draw against fourth placed Kidderminster.

Moors deserved a point against fourth placed Kidderminster who have already clinched a play off place, and they stay in seventh place because York City were beaten at FC United. Chorley, who were level on points with Moors before the start of play, were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Stockport. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Moors could be playing Kidderminster again in a fortnight’s time in the play offs.

Kidderminster went close on three minutes when top scorer Joe Ironside headed straight at Dan Lowson from an Elton Ngwatala assist, while Ngwatala fired a couple of yards wide from the edge of the box.

But Moors slowly got into the game, and they nearly took the lead midway through the half when Andy Johnson headed just over the top from a Kallum Griffiths cross, and then Micky Anderson volleyed straight at Kiddie keeper Brandon Hall from a ball over the top.

Kidderminster hit back, and first James McQuilkin shot just over the bar, and Lowson pulled off a good save from Sam Austin’s low shot.

However, Moors nearly took the lead just on half time when Ryan Hall crossed for Anderson to fire goalwards, but Brandon Hall pulled off an excellent save.

Moors moved up a gear at the start of the second half, and a good move involving Jamie Chandler and Rob Ramshaw ended with Glen Taylor having a shot blocked, and in Moors’ next attack, Andy Johnson hit the post.

But after Kiddie went close with a low effort by Ironside, they took the lead against the run of play on 57 minutes when Ngwatala picked the ball up in midfield and hit a superb dipping 30 yarder that went in off the underside of the crossbar.

Taylor nearly levelled within a minute, but Hall just held on to his effort.

It was nearly 2-0 on 66 minutes when Emmanuel Sonupe managed to round Lowson, but James Curtis cleared off the line, and then Ironside broke through, but Moors just managed to stop him inside the area.

Moors kept battling away, and their perseverance paid off on 72 minutes when Anderson was pulled back inside the area by Ryan Croasdale, and Taylor scored his 19th league goal of the season from the spot.

The game could have gone either way after that, with Ironside going the closest with a header.
