Spennymoor Town 0 Boston United 0.

Spennymoor keeper Dan Lowson earned his side a point in their hastily-switched home game at Harrogate’s Wetherby Road last night.

Lowson pulled off some good saves in the second half, but they were enough to keep them in sixth place, as York City lost 1-0 at Nuneaton.

On a foggy night, Moors boss Jason Ainsley kept faith with the team that won 4-1 at Alfreton at the weekend, with defender Adam Curry facing one of his previous clubs.

The teams cancelled each other out on the 4G surface early on, but Boston nearly took the lead on 16 minutes when an inswinging corner by Ashley Hemmings was touched onto the post by the outstretched hand of Dan Lowson, and the ball was cleared.

Boston had another opportunity on 23 minutes when Jake Beesley set up James Clifton, but he stumbled as he was about to shoot.

Moors’ striker Glen Taylor had his first real opportunity soon after, but his shot was deflected away for a corner.

Boston had more of the game towards half time, and at one point Lowson had to come out of his area to head away a long ball before Reece Thompson could get to it.

The game opened up in the second half. Thompson had a shot blocked for Boston, and then Lowson pulled off an excellent point blank save from Hemmings, when he touched the striker’s effort over the bar.

Hemmings again broke free, and with just Lowson to beat, fired wide of the target.

But Moors bounced back by almost taking the lead on 68 minutes when Shane Henry picked up a through ball, but fired over the top from a good position.

Lowson came to his team’s rescue again at the other end, when Hemmings pulled the ball back from the left for Thompson to have a point-blank effort saved by the keeper, who also blocked the follow up, and Brad Abbott could only fire into the side netting.

Andrew Johnson was just wide from a free kick on 73 minutes, but Boston nearly scored again when a Hemmings corner caused a scramble in the Moors box and the ball was cleared off the line by Rob Ramshaw.

Taylor nearly snatched the winner, but a defender deflected his shot wide from a Fewster cross.

Moors are back at Wetherby Road on Thursday night when they entertain Brackley.
