Gainsborough Trinity 4 Spennymoor Town 1.

Spennymoor are still without a win open play against Gainsborough in four attempts when they were beaten 4-1 at the Northolme this afternoon.

Moors lost to the Lincolnshire side in the FA cup, drew with them in the league, and also drew with them in the FA Trophy before beating them on penalties, and today they lost to them after taking the lead early on in the game.

The defeat was a disappointment for Moors, after winning at promotion chasing Harrogate in midweek.

Gainsborough, who are battling relegation, started the game well, and in the opening minutes Ashley Worsfold fired into the side netting, then Michael Jacklin headed against the bar from a corner.

But Moors took the lead with their first real attack of the game on 15 minutes, when Kallum Griffiths crossed perfectly from the right for Andrew Johnson to volley home.

They nearly scored a second when Rob Ramshaw curled an effort just past the post, but Gainsborough were level on 21 minutes when Nicky Walker crossed for Shane Clarke to beat Moors keeper Dan Lowson.

However, Clarke nearly put Moors back in front at the other end, when he miscued a clearance and struck his own crossbar.

The game continued to go from end to end, and the home side took the lead on 37 minutes when Nathan Jarman helped on a corner for Worsfold to turn home.

Moors boss Jason Ainsley made one change at half time, bringing on Shane Henry for Ryan Hall in midfield, but it was Gainsborough who got the next goal on 47 minutes.

A long clearance out of the home defence caught Moors flat footed, Alex Simmons latched on to the ball and then slotted it past the exposed Lowson.

Moors almost pulled a goal back, but Henry headed over from a good position, Rob Ramshaw fired straight at Gainsborough keeper Henrich Ravas, and then Ramshaw was unlucky to see another effort go just wide.

Moors kept the pressure on and Joe Tait headed wide from a corner but Gainsborough worked hard to keep them out, and it was 4-1 with six minutes left when Craig King opened up the Moors defence for Jarman to control and slot past Lowson.

Lowson, Griffiths, Tait, Curtis, Mason, Ramshaw, Chandler, Hall (sub Henry 46), Anderson (sub Lowe 86), Johnson, Rutherford (sub Fewster 66).
