Chorley 3 Spennymoor Town 1 .

Spennymoor were knocked out of the Vanarama National League North play off positions when they were beaten at Victory Park tonight.

Moors were blown away by the pace of Chorley in the first half, but they gave themselves a lifeline in the second half when Chorley defender Andy Teague put through his own goal, but Chorley recovered and scored again with ten minutes left.

Chorley are now a point behind Moors, but Stockport’s win over Boston hoisted them over Moors into seventh. However, Moors can regain a play off spot at home to Leamington on Thursday.

Chorley nearly took the lead on three minutes, when Josh Wilson dribbled his way into the box with only keeper Dan Lowson to beat, only for Kallum Griffiths to make a terrific tackle at the expense of a corner.

Chorley played at a fast pace, and went close on 11 minutes when Marcus Carver got through one-on-one against Lowson, but the keeper timed his run perfectly and saved at his feet.

However, he made no mistake three minutes later when Adam Blakeman beat a couple of defenders and played the ball through for Carver to beat Lowson.

It was 2-0 on 20 minutes, when Moors failed to deal with a long ball out of the Chorley defence, and Carver controlled it, ran though and beat Lowson.

But Moors nearly pulled one back when Matt Urwin failed to hold on to a Griffiths cross, and Ryan Hall, following up, had his shot cleared off the line by Scott Leather.

However, Moors looked fragile at the other end, and they nearly went three down when Carver headed a right wing cross down for recent signing Alex Newby to volley over the top.

Chorley kept up the pace in the second half, and Newby charged through before he was tackled.

Moors boss Jason Ainsley brought on Brad Fewster for Ryan Hall, and the move paid dividends within a few minutes, when Chorley defender Andy Teague could only turn an Andy Johnson cross into his own net.

The goal rejuvenated Moors, and they went close to an equaliser through strikes by Glen Taylor and Mark Anderson.

But just as it looked as if Moors would break through for the equaliser, they went 3-1 down with ten minutes left. Newby managed to beat his man and pull the ball back for Josh O’Keefe to turn past Lowson.

It could even have been 4-1 if Jamie Chandler hadn’t stopped the dangerous Blakeman from getting through again.

Lowson, Griffiths, Mason, Curtis, Chantler (sub Rutherford 85), Henry, Lowe, Chandler, Hall (sub Fewster 52), Taylor, Johnson (sub Anderson 63).
