Spennymoor will be looking for a better performance rather than revenge when they face Tamworth at the Brewery Field today.

Moors lost their first away game of the National League season on the 3G at Tamworth by 3-1 back in September, but they have recovered well from that setback, only one of only five defeats this season.

Manager Jason Ainsley said; “It’s not so much revenge we’re looking for, but we’re looking to play much better than we did in the first game.

“A few days before that, we’d played well against York, but the Tamworth performance was our worst of the season up to that point. We didn’t do ourselves justice at all in the game, too many of our players underperformed that day.

“As I’ve said many times before, you have to be at your best to win matches in this league, and on several occasions we’ve done that this season. It’s a mistake to underestimate your opponents. Tamworth won’t be easy, they’ve started the year really well and not long ago they drew with Brackley who are in the top four.

“But look at the results this week in the league – not many people would have expected Blyth to lose at home to Alfreton.

“The full-time teams also seem to be coming to the fore now. The top two, Salford and Harrogate, are both full time, York City are moving up the table – they’re the ones who are training full time and have big squads.

“Usually though, we seem to get stronger in the second half of the season and we start to pull results out of the bag in the league and cup competitions, so let’s hope that continues this season.”

Winger David Foley is missing this afternoon because of a hamstring injury he picked up at York, while full back Kallum Griffiths will have a fitness test on a knee injury.
