Spennymoor are looking for third time lucky when Gainsborough visit the Brewery Field in the first round of the Buildbase FA Trophy on Saturday afternoon.

Moors have already played their Vanarama National League North colleagues twice this season. They drew 1-1 in the league with them at the Brewery Field in September when defender Joe Tait scored at both ends, then they lost 2-1 at home in the FA Cup after they led at half time.

The Trophy is a top priority for Moors, and manager Jason Ainsley said; “We want to have a good run in the competition, and test ourselves against teams from above us, but we know that today will be a very tough game.

“Gainsborough are a very good side, and shouldn’t be taken for granted. We don’t want to lose to them and have the same feeling as the last two occasions.

“We haven’t had much luck against them, and since we played them, they have strengthened their squad with a couple of good signings who can hurt us. “ Moors are also wanting to bounce back from their 3-2 away defeat last week at Stockport, which kept them fifth in the table.

“I thought we played well last week and were unlucky to lose,” said Ainsley.

“We played very well in our last home game against Harrogate Town, the lads showed how well they can play. If we perform to the best of our ability, then we can beat most teams, but we must make sure that we reach the standard that we achieved against Harrogate.”

Midfielder Jamie Chandler has been suffering from a virus that forced him to miss training in midweek, but he is expected to be fit.

Moors’ home game against Telford, which was postponed a fortnight ago, has been re-arranged for Tuesday 9th January.
