Nuneaton 0 Spennymoor Town 1.

Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley admitted that his side pulled off a smash and grab raid when they won with a late Glen Taylor winner at Nuneaton on Saturday.

Moors were below their best, but they showed enough character to keep battling away and snatch the points in the dying minutes to put them fourth in the table following Blyth’s defeat at Bradford Park Avenue.

“It was something of a smash and grab by us, because we rode our luck a little bit and could have been a couple of goals down,” he said.

“We scored our goal with the first real bit of football that we’d played, because Nuneaton were one of the best teams we’ve played against this season, we couldn’t lay a glove on them.

“But at half time we had a few words, and in the second half we were stronger and more of a threat.

“We’re delighted with the points, that’s three times recently we’ve scored late goals to get us points, and in our last three matches we’ve picked up seven points against Kidderminster, Chorley and Nuneaton, which isn’t bad at all.”

The nippy Ashley Chambers went close for the home side early on, then Jordan Nicholson forced a good save out of Moors keeper Jordan Porter.

Nicholson had two more opportunities before half time, the second of them from just a few yards out that he put wide, and just on half time James Curtis headed off the line.

Moors came more into the game in the second half, but Nuneaton still had a good chance to take the lead when Leon Lobjoit got away on the end of a Chambers pass, but he pulled his shot side.

Moors though fired a warning shot when David Foley beat a couple of defenders and fired across the face of goal, and Matty Dixon’s long range shot was saved.

They broke through with seven minutes left, when Foley and Rob Ramshaw combined well, and Ramshaw rolled the ball square for Taylor to sidefoot his tenth goal of the season.

Moors still had their hearts in their mouths though when Chambers broke free in the last minute, but fortunately shot into the side netting.
