Spennymoor 2 York City 4.

Spennymoor had a nightmare eleven minutes when they were beaten 4-2 at home by York City last night.

Moors conceded two penalties in the space of nine minutes, then York’s Louis Almond made it three before the break, and that left them with too much to do in the second half, despite a spirited fightback.

Moors nearly took the lead in the second minute, when David Foley dribbled through the York defence and set up Jake Orrell, who was making his full debut, but he put his effort wide.

York replied with a good run by Sean Newton, but Moors keeper Dan Lowson saved his effort, then Josh Law fired wide of the post in the full timers’ next attack.

However, Moors full back Kallum Griffiths nearly scored a typical long range goal, when his effort from 35 yards flew just past the York goal with keeper Worsnop stranded.

But Moors went behind on 29 minutes. Joe Tait was penalised for handball inside his own penalty area, and veteran striker Jon Parkin scored from the spot to put York in front.

And it was the same scenario on 38 minutes. Tait pulled back Parkin as he burst into the box, and again Parkin converted the spot kick.

To make matters worse for Moors, they went 3-0 down just two minutes later when Louis Almond pounced on a loose ball, cut in from the right and beat Lowson with an angled shot.

Moors nearly pulled one back at the start of the second half, but Worsnop pulled off a good save from a Mattie Dixon piledriver.

Moors early persistence was rewarded when they pulled a goal back on 62 minutes when the ref awarded the third penalty of the night for a handball in the York area, and Tait blasted in his second penalty in as many games.

With their tails up, Moors nearly got a second, but Glen Taylor’s fierce shot was blocked, and then sub Mark Anderson hit the post from a David Foley pass.

Moors kept the pressure going, and they pulled another goal back with six minutes remaining, when Anderson fired home from the edge of the box.

Anderson was then denied an equaliser when his shot was blocked, but just as it looked as if Moors might snatch an equaliser, Kaine Felix pounced on a poor clearance by Lowson and fired home.

Spennymoor: Lowson, Griffiths, Chantler, Dixon, Tait, Curtis, Orrell (sub Fewster 71), Ramshaw, Taylor, Johnson (sub Anderson 59), Foley.
