Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley has warned that there are no easy games in the Vanarama National League North as they prepare for their home game against Gainsborough today.

Moors have got off to a flying start this season, having lost just once in their opening seven matches to put them fifth in the table, way above their expectations, but Ainsley is keen to make sure that his players don’t get carried away by recent results.

“I watched Gainsborough at Darlington earlier in the season, and even though they lost, they still scored three times and looked capable of scoring goals,” he said. “They seem to concede a few at the other end, though.

“We have to make sure that today doesn’t turn out to be a case of after the lord mayor’s show. We’ve had two tough games against Salford and Darlington and produced two very good performances, but there’s no point in drawing those games if we don’t beat Gainsborough today, especially as we have York City coming up here on Tuesday.”

Ainsley says that he is delighted with the recent performances of his team. “I thought the lads produced a very good performance on Monday at Darlington. I thought we had the better chances, and I was happy with the amount of chances we created throughout the game. For an away performance I was quite happy with it. We’ve travelled away four times now this season, and lost only once.

“We’ve had a good start to the season, but we must be wary now that opposing teams are taking note of us. It shows how far we’ve come as a club in the last few years.”

Ainsley will have a full squad to choose from, with new signing, former Boro striker Bradley Fewster included, but winger Ryan Hall is out injured.

Ainsley also defended his keeper, Dan Lowson following Monday’s draw at Darlington. “Dan made a mistake for their goal, but on many occasions this season he has saved us. That’s life as a keeper.”

Gainsborough have won twice this season, at home to North Ferriby last Monday and away at Nuneaton, and they have conceded four goals on at least three occasions this season.
