Matlock 0 Spennymoor Town 4.

Spennymoor climbed up to second place in the EvoStik League Premier Division table with an emphatic display at Matlock.

Moors produced one of their best performances of the season when they needed it most, as they put the disappointment of last Saturday’s draw against Nantwich behind them.

Moors started the game confidently, and went close on 12 minutes when Andy Johnson set up Graeme Armstrong, who headed over the bar from six yards.

And they took the lead five minutes later when the same combination successfully clicked, when Armstrong converted Johnson’s low cross.

Moors continued to threaten, and it was no surprise when they went 2-0 up on 27 minutes when Glen Taylor helped the ball on for Johnson to run through and beat keeper Phil Barnes.

And the game was all over on the half hour when Taylor netted a spectacular goal, when he controlled a long clearance by keeper Dan Lowson and beat Barnes from 30 yards out.

Taylor nearly got another before the break, when he headed just over the top after Chris Mason knocked back a Johnson corner for him.

But there was no stopping Moors getting another on the hour, when Armstrong fired in off the bar from a Rob Ramshaw assist.

They nearly got a fifth when Jamie Chandler sent Johnson racing clear, but Barnes saved his effort.

Moors: Lowson, Griffiths, Curtis, Mason, Baldwin, Ramshaw, Chandler, Henry (sub Mitchell 64), Johnson, Taylor (sub Fisher 68), Armstrong (sub Dowson 64) Subs: Tait, Watson.

Meanwhile, Moors have been informed by the league that Ilkeston will be travelling to the Brewery Field for their scheduled game on Thursday night.

Blyth now need just one win for the title after they won 1-0 at Rushall Olympic.
