Halesowen 1 Spennymoor Town 2.

Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley was delighted with his team after they came back from a goal down to win at Halesowen.

The victory was just the boost Moors needed after their last minute defeat at Whitby in midweek, and now they’re eighth in the table, just a single points away from the play off spots with at least two game in hand on the teams above them.

“I thought we started badly, and we were at sixes and sevens before we got into the game,” he said. “We dominated the second half and missed a couple of great chances before we scored the winner.

“After the first 20 minutes, I thought we played well, and didn’t make the same mistakes as we have been recently.

“We’re delighted with the win, because not only does it keep us right in the thick of the play off race on a day when a lot of the other teams around us have drawn, but also because we came back from a goal down to win for the first time in a while.”

Halesowen took the lead in the opening minutes when a shot by Halesowen’s Ben Clarke was deflected off Moors defender Joe Tait into the net, and then they narrowly missed a good chance for a second.

However, Moors got back into it when Adam Mitchell crossed for Tait to head in, and they nearly got a second, but Mark Anderson was denied by the woodwork. .Just on half time, Glen Taylor struck the post.

Shane Henry’s powerful shot was touched on to the post by the Halesowen keeper at the start of the second half, but their luck turned when Kallum Griffiths crossed for Anderson to set up Jamie Chandler to fire home.

Meanwhile, Moors included young keeper Ben Smith on the bench, after signing him from Newcastle United’s Under 23 squad on Friday afternoon, and he will be a replacement for Andy Rafferty, who has been released.

Moors: Lowson, Griffiths, Mason, Chandler, Tait, Curtis, Mitchell, Henry, Taylor (sub Dowson), Fisher (sub Armstrong), Anderson (sub Ramshaw).
